In the Sacrament of Confirmation we are given the Holy Spirit, who will lead us to a more perfect bond with Christ, our Baptismal grace is completed, and will associate us more closely with the mission of the Church – to go and make disciples, and teach all people what Christ has commanded. (cf Matthew 28:19-20) For by the sacrament of Confirmation, the baptized are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, No. 1285) In the rite, the confirmand is anointed with sacred chrism, which is done by the laying on of hands while the words ‘Be sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit’ is said.
Children in our Parish who have reached the Eighth Grade should begin their studies to receive Confirmation, either in our Parish School (St. John Vianney) or through our PREP Program. Please contact either the school (610-435-8981) or our Director of Religious Education (Mrs. Camille Stockdale, 610-435-0364) for more information.
